Do it Yourself Wedding Centerpieces
It is a myth that non-creative people cannot make their own wedding centerpieces. As a matter of fact, I think it is a myth that non-creative people exist! I think they may just be out of practice a little.
A great way to save money on a wedding is to make your wedding decorations yourself. This is especially true for smaller weddings. If you are having a large wedding, it could be more cost effective to use a designer that already has their own decorations and access to wholesale prices.
Getting married is just as much about planning the wedding as it is about having one! While it can be stressful for some, for others it is a great bonding experience to have with your loved ones who are helping you. It is also a great creative outlet for those who may not otherwise have one! Do not be fooled into thinking that it is more expensive to have homemade wedding centerpieces. It just takes a little bit of research and planning to be cost effective.
Finding things that play with light can make some cool effects on your tables. Mirrors reflect objects and colors in a very interesting way. Placing your centerpieces on top of a mirror can add a lot to the effect of the centerpiece.
Candles are an extremely cheap way to add a lot of ambience. They come in so many shapes and sizes. Mix and match and cluster large groups together.
Water is another great way to play with light. Light is bent and reflected in water in interested ways. Play with lights and candles shining into water for interesting effects.
Also keep in mind that just about anything can be painted to match your wedding colors. Finding objects in interested shapes and spray-painting them make for unique decorations. You can take things found in nature (such as sticks and leaves) and paint them as well.
Play with heights and textures to add dimension to your wedding centerpieces. Mix and match objects of various heights and sizes. These can be vases, candles, boxes etc.
View everything you see as potential for decoration. Think about what you may be able to add to the object to personalize it and make it match. Any common object can be painted or bedazzled to be glamorous!
